Public Bus Services
The following services depart from Bristol Bus Station and the City Centre (opposite the Hippodrome).
First Bus 355/362/364/662/663 (destination: Clevedon) First Bus 354/654 (destination Nailsea) First Bus 350/351/353/653 (destination Weston-Super-Mare)
For Bower Ashton alight at Ashton Bridge. From there, cross the road at the pelican crossing and pass under the road using the subway. Follow the path and then the pavement to the corner opposite Kennel Lodge Road. Cross the road and walk up Kennel Lodge Road. Bower Ashton Campus is on your left-hand side. These services depart every 10-20 minutes.
First Bus 358/359/659 (destination: Portishead)
For Bower Ashton Campus alight at Clanage Road or ask for the ‘art college’. The bus stop is just past the turning to Kennel Lodge Road so walk back a few metres and turn right up Kennel Lodge Road. Bower Ashton Campus is on your left-hand side. These services depart every 30 minutes.
Train
There are two railway stations for Bristol. Ensure your train is for Temple Meads Station. Take a No 8, 9, 54 or 1 ’bus from Temple Meads to the ’bus stop adjacent to The House of Fraser. Then a short, signposted walk to the Bus Station transfer to No 358 or 359 (Portishead) bus to the UWE at Bower Ashton (approximately every half hour depending on the time of day).
Taxi
A taxi from Temple Meads to the University costs between £9:00 and £9:50. Most taxi drivers know it as “The Art College at Bower Ashton.”
Driving
via M5 - Visitors travelling by motorway will find it much easier to get to the University by taking the M5 to the south and leaving the motorway at Junction 19 (Portishead/Gordano Services). Then take the A369 towards Clifton/Bristol for approximately 5 miles. After the traffic lights get in the right hand lane marked on the road; A369 B’TOL. Staying in the right hand lane at the next set of traffic lights, descend the 1 in 7 hill that has some very sharp bends. Just after the bottom bend pass the Avon and Somerset Constabulary, Mounted and Dog Section’s headquarters, carry on for approximately a quarter of a mile. Take the sharp right hand turning at the end of the straight signposted with a brown sign for Ashton Court Estate. Turn left after two hundred yards for main parking, blue badge parking spaces and access to all areas. Alternatively, go straight on for the front entrance where there is limited parking and blue badge parking spaces.
via M4, through city center - The route through Bristol is more complicated. Leave the M4 at Junction 19, take theM32 and follow signs to the City Centre. Then follow signs for Weston - Super - Mare (A370) Taunton (A38) M5 South and Bristol Airport. This route takes you past the docks with the SS Great Britain on your left. Cross the River Avon, following the same signs, until you see a large sign which directs you to Portishead (A369). (Some smaller signs tell you that UWE Bower Ashton is only a 1/4 mile distant.) Follow the A369 and turn left when you see the signs for Ashton Court Estate and UWE, Bristol School of Art, Media and Design.
via the A4 from the direction of Bath - Visitors should follow the signs for Weston - Super - Mare (A370), M5 South and Bristol Airport. These signs will guide the visitor alongside the waterway known locally as “The Cut”. Follow the signs for Weston - Super - Mare (A370) until a large sign directs you to Portishead (A369) (Follow the smaller signs that tell you UWE Bower Ashton is only a 1/4 mile distant.) Then follow the A369 and turn left when you see the signs for Ashton Court Estate and UWE, Bristol School of Art, Media and Design.
Park&Ride
Please note that there is a local Park & Ride to Bristol City Centre/Broadmead (Bristol’s central shopping location). The Park & Ride is located approx. 2 minutes by car from the Bower Ashton Campus.
