BA Hons Drawing and Applied Art is a studio-based programme that understands Drawing as a way of thinking within the creative processes and explores the relationship between drawing and making. 

Emphasis is placed on the development of an appropriate visual language to communicate ideas and concepts and students are expected to thoroughly question what and how they draw in response to what they want to communicate.

DAA explores the balance between concept and relevant material exploration, in other words, the understanding and harnessing of the unspoken languages of materials and processes. The play between intuition and reasoning forms a key role in the way that students learn and how Drawing is continuously re-defined. The development of skills builds upon and challenges the traditions within the Applied Arts. 

The course aspires to allow students to build a creative practice that has relevance for them, allowing a clear view of their place in order to define their own ‘label’, parameters and identity. We see drawing as a way into the world where students learn to understand and comment in a very relevant and meaningful way.
