"The Disastrous Date", 2009
My aims for the graduate film were to create an entertaining, humorous film about a blind date gone wrong. Initially the story was to depict the awkwardness many people might feel in such a situation, however this developed over time to create a more farcical scenario.
I enjoy various contemporary American animations; the look and humour involved in The Disastrous Date is strongly influenced by these. Having developed traditional 2-d skills in the first two years of my studies, I decided to apply this experience and build on it for my graduate film. I combined 2-d with photo collage layers to give the film some texture and detail.
For me, there is no greater satisfaction than creating and/or directing a film that will make people laugh.
